In London there’s a new generation of underground rhythmic resistance unfolding
We mentored up and coming British-Asian Director, Aileen Ye, through our sponsorship of EVCOM’s FOCUS award scheme, to develop and produce a short documentary that reveals the unique underground London music scene created by East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) communities.
Here, rave culture, experimental fashion, sexuality, and hyper pop combine to become an affirmation of love, freedom, and acceptance. However, beneath the joyful surface is an undercurrent of generational and political rebellion.
Midnight Rising is currently enjoying a successful festival run, screening at the BFI London Film Festival, Dublin International Film Festival, Ann Arbor Film Festival in the US, Cinemasia in Amsterdam, and Queer East in London.
We’ll be releasing the full film later this year once its festival run is complete. Watch this space!
